As the world progresses, technology does too. Rapidly. We generate 50 million tons of E-Waste every year (The World Counts, n.d.). THAT’S A LOT OF WASTE.

What is E-waste?
E-waste is the simplified form of Electronic Waste, and this includes every electronic device that is either nearing its end, broken or defective that is discarded. When these discarded materials are buried and burned, it releases toxic chemicals such as lead into the atmosphere and the soil, harming everything. When these are prolonged, it will affect all since everything is interconnected, so the best solution to this is to minimize and recycle e-waste.
But how? These are the ways I recommend to help minimize our e-waste.
Tips to minimize e-waste
Buy what is only needed. Every second, there are a lot of newly launched products. We also want to improve our gadget as the new one is truly better than the old one. However, if the current device is working perfectly fine, you won’t need a new one.
Research. Before buying products, it is better to do research. Look for electronic products from eco-friendly brands. According to Hay (2020), Konika Minolta has the highest overall score, 87.75, followed by Philips, with 86.63. Amazon is ranked the lowest, which is why one should be avoided even if it offers great products.
Prolong the life of your device. It can be of any means from the protective casing, screen protectors, weekly cleaning to malware and virus security and software updates.
Earn from selling. There are a lot of buyers out there who can reuse some parts from buying your old device. This is a win-win situation for both parties, and lastly;
Be a mindful consumer and a person. Every action we do will affect everything in the future. It is just right for us to do our part as human beings.
